T and B Lymphocyte Activity in Cervical - Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Cervical Cancer Patients

Abstract
In attempt to evaluate immunological function of the intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer patients, B cell and T cell %, T4& T8 cell %, T4/T8 cell ratio in the peripheral blood using flow cytometry had been studied in 25 patients with CIN, 30 patients with cervical cancer and 30 normal healthy women with control visited to Department; of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Chungnam National University, College of Medicine, from January 1992 through September 1992.
For the determination, of the relative percentage and absolute numbers of specific lymphocyte subset populations, flow cytometry has inherent advantages over techniques such as microscopy. A flow cytometry can analyze large numbers of lymphocytes quickly >1,000 cells/sec), objectively, quantitatively and reproducibly, which greatly increases the statistical confidence and accuracy of the data.
The results obtained were as follows ;
1. No significant difference was observed in the percentage of the B cell between study and control group.
2. Percentage of T cell in CIN & cervical cancer patients, 74.1¡¾5.4%, 74.5¡¾4.6%, respectively was lower than control group, 78.2¡¾6.3%(p<0.05).
3. Percentage of T8 cell in CIN & cervical cancer patients, 39.5¡¾4.8%, 38.3¡¾5.6%, respectively was higher than control group, 35.2¡¾4.6%(p<0.05).
4. Percentage of T4 cell in CIN & cervical cancer patients, 47.3¡¾4.6%, 46.1¡¾6.5%, respectively was higher than control group, 51.2¡¾7.6%(p<0.05).
